76.3mm. 159.9g. Cornucopia and BRONZE on edge. Signed HENRI DUBOIS. Joe Foster writes in the October 2011 issue of the MCA Advisory that these medals were designed by Canadian Etienne E. Tache and struck at the Paris Mint in the fall of 1909. They were issued in bronze to those who could “prove to be a descendent of the original settlers who had arrived in New France.” Six pieces were struck in gold for high-ranking officials and dignitaries. A popular historical medal featuring Samuel de Champlain stepping off a small sailboat onto the shores of Stadacone, the Iroquoian settlement that would become Quebec.
From the Michael Joffre Collection of Canadian Historical Medals.
