Petrolia, Land Mortgage Debenture, 1927. This $1,500 5% debenture was redeemed on Aug. 18 1930, as indicated by three purple "Paid" stamps. It is printed in black with a red corporate seal. The company was opened in 1882 by John Henry Fairbank (of the local Vaughn & Fairbank private bank, established 1869). Fairbank remained President of Crown Savings and Loan for the next thirty years. It mainly provided mortgage loans to local farmers. Condition is VF with considerable paper toning. Evidence remains of a stub having been pasted at the left edge, there are a few pin holes, and the bottom margin has been reduced because of severing the interest coupons.
