Undated Crowned F countermark on a 1746 George II halfpenny. The host coin is of Extremely Fine sharpness, the countermark equally strong. Everything sharp on the British host, the legends and date bold, all the design detail strong, the Crowned F mark sharply impressed on the King’s neck, flattening just a small area of the seated Britannia’s torso on the reverse. While high grade the British copper is a mottled rose and light brown, the obverse with some light green verdigris, the reverse with far more. As with the above coin, this is thought to be an early 20th century issue made to deceive numismatists. Also from the Mike Ringo collection.
